Quality as a Rule

By Dave - Posted on 24 February 2012

I’ve been impressed with the advancement of the component placement process over the last 20 years. Smaller, cheaper and faster is still the rule of opportunity. But, how much faster can you get than this?

Any guesses on how many components are placed in this short video?

QPL has 4 of these automated parts placement machines which can be programmed and optimized to place up to 296 parts per minute, 4.9 per second, 17800 per hour (0603). Automated Optical Inspection and Automated testing further streamlines their process to produce consistent quality assemblies for customers in aerospace, instrumentation, medical, commercial, consumer and industrial sectors of the market.

AS9100C
QPL is an AS9100C certified manufacturer in Hillsboro, OR. AS9100 Rev C is based on the ISO 9001:2000 quality system requirements. These requirements are supplemented by additional quality system requirements established by the aerospace industry to satisfy DOD, NASA, and FAA quality requirements. The development of the supplemental requirements was the result of an international effort by aerospace companies with a common goal of establishing a single quality management system for use within the aerospace industry. AS9100 Rev C is a product of this international effort. The AS9100 Rev C standard was developed by Working Group 11 of ISO TC20 with the support of the International Aerospace Quality Group.

Your product may not require full AS9100C compliance, but the advantages of these internal processes are seen with all products they manufacture. Perhaps the rule should be smaller, cheaper, faster and better quality.
